You can now watch all your favourite comic books like Spider-Man, Hulk, and Captain America in your iPad. Thanks to Marvel Entertainment you can now pay comics by comics via iTunes and enjoy them through their recently launched commerce-enable Marvel Comics application for Apple’s iPad in the App store. It provides a user-friendly search engine and various viewing options for iPad owners (Source: Mobile Marketer).
Each of the 500 or more Marvel’s most popular comic books are presented at the highest resolution possible. The feature resembles a newsstand where customers sample their books of choice and then go to their prefer book shop to pay more. The book store locator feature in the app encourages the sales of books through the comic book shop partners. It thus brings world’s greatest comic heroes to a whole new audience.
Marvel Entertainment LLC, is now owned by The Walt Disney Co. They have got so many characters (more than 5,000) with a variety of media over seventy years.
Marvel’s strategy is leverage its franchises with new technologies, like iPad, for increasing their worldwide sellers including feature films, toys, video games, TV cartoons and mobile.
Marvel has grabbed on the opportunity provided by iPad to replicate the experience of reading a print comic through a digital medium for the first time. This gives them the opportunity to reach new readers and customers are able to sample the company’s various stories and characters. New readers have the option to preview first pages from their catalog before buying. They also have a recommendation engine option for “helping” customers to find the right comic for them. ComiXology partnered with Marvel to develop this application.
A comic shop locator to search for the local retailer’s address and phone number to buy Marvel Universe comics physically is also added. The mobile reading experience on the iPad just gets more exciting with the multiple viewing modes. The readers can view the comic book panel-by-panel in a smooth, action-packed progression by just a swipe of their finger.
Individual comics are priced at $1.99 while the Marvel Comics application can be downloaded from the App Store on the iPad, absolutely FREE.
